JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – A Missouri state representative is set to present a resolution on Tuesday evening calling on the state’s congressional delegation to oppose the 2010 federal health care law with “manly firmness.”
The reference, said sponsor Mike Moon, a Lawrence County Republican, is to the Declaration of Independence. But to some, the statement was seen as offensive.
“I don’t think you prove your manhood by kicking folks off their health coverage and once again letting insurance companies discriminate against women and sick people,” said U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill, a Democrat who was reelected in 2012 after supporting the 2010 law.
McCaskill – whose last Republican opponent, Todd Akin, questioned whether she acted “lady-like” during a debate – also used the Moon intrigue (which has drawn attention online with the hashtag #ManlyFirmness) to plug her book.
With all the #ManlyFirmness coming from the Mo leg,now is right time for me to say you can pre-order my book,"Plenty Ladylike"on Amazon.

McCaskill is one of three women in Missouri’s delegation to Congress, but is the lone Democrat. The other two women, Reps. Vicky Hartzler and Ann Wagner, were elected after campaigning against the bill.
