McCaskill: Clinton needed “independence” in email review process

U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill, one of the first Democrats to lend her support to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s likely campaign for president, said Monday that the former First Lady should have been more prepared for questions about her use of a private email address, including the issue of having them independently reviewed.

Speaking on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, McCaskill said, “I think she assumed that what was supposed to be public would be public and what was her own personal stuff wasn’t going to be public, and I think she might have been too focused on the latter part of that,” adding that there should have been “some kind of a shine of independence” to quell concerns.
