– Rep. Ann Wagner has been selected to lead fundraising for the National Republican Congressional Committee for the 2016 election cycle, the St. Louis Republican said in an email to donors before Christmas.
In the message obtained by PoliticMo, Wagner – a seasoned political operative who has chaired the Missouri Republican Party, U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt’s successful 2010 campaign, and led an unsuccessful run to be chairman of the Republican National Committee – wrote that she has been selected to serve as the organization’s finance chairman.
“This is a great opportunity to talk to many different donors and support networks throughout the country – but I first wanted to touch base with you, my most valued supporters in the St. Louis area,” Wagner told her donors.
Wagner wrote that at the beginning of the year, she will distribute a packet “detailing all the success from the 2014 cycle (that, thanks to your generous support, you made happen),” touting “details like picking up five new women members of the GOP conference, flipping 13 Democrat seats and building a historic 247 vote majority in the House.”
Despite their electoral success in 2014, the NRCC trailed its Democratic counterpart, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, by $50 million in the last cycle.
