Dr. Brad Bradshaw, a Springfield lawyer and physician, has announced that he is mulling a campaign for the Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor in 2016.
In a statement on Monday, Bradshaw said he had formed an exploratory committee in an effort to lay the groundwork for a potential run.
“For too long the Office of the Lieutenant Governor has been used as a ceremonial office for a do-nothing politician enjoying a free meal ticket from Missouri taxpayers,” Bradshaw said in a statement. “The office should do more to improve the access and affordability of healthcare for seniors and veterans, create jobs and economic growth for all Missourians, and promote more efficient government.” Dr. Bradshaw plans to launch specific ballot initiatives over the next few months that are aimed at creating jobs, growing the state’s economy, and reducing taxes on the middle class and small businesses owners.
The office’s current occupant, Lt. Governor Peter Kinder, has indicated that he will seek reelection for a fourth term. Beverly Randles, the current chairwoman of the Missouri Club for Growth, is reportedly mulling a campaign against him for the Republican nomination.
