Republicans strengthen majorities in Missouri General Assembly

Despite a massive spending and organizational effort by Missouri Democrats, Republicans strengthened their majorities in both chambers of the General Assembly on Tuesday, gaining eight seats in the Missouri House and two seats in the Missouri Senate.

In the Missouri House, Republicans knocked off six sitting Democrats – including Reps. John Wright, Michael Frame, TJ McKenna, John Mayfield, and Vicki Englund – winning a historic 118-vote supermajority. In the Senate, Republicans won back two seats previously held by Democrats.

Democrats won back one seat in both the House and Senate previously held by a Republican.

Republicans started the day with a 110 member majority in the Missouri House and a 23 vote majority in the Senate.
