Add another Democrat to the list of those boycotting the Democratic candidate for St. Louis County executive, Steve Stenger: State Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal.
Chappelle-Nadal – an African American who has been critical of Stenger’s support of St. Louis County Prosecutor Bob McCulloch despite local calls for him to step aside from the investigation into the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson – is the star of a new ad debuted by Republican candidate Rick Stream’s campaign on Wednesday.
The ad doesn’t mention Ferguson, Stenger nor McCulloch. Instead, the positive spot features Stream’s tenure as chairman of the Missouri House Budget Committee.
“When the most vulnerable were threatened by massive state budget cuts Rick Stream as House Budget Chair didn’t let Party lines get in the way of doing what was right,” Chapelle-Nadal says to the camera. “Rick balanced the budget while working with us to protect our local schools, Head Start, Meals on Wheels and more. Rick was a Godsend of common sense and compassion in a sea of disaster.”
Chappelle-Nadal’s support comes after a group of Black Democrats formed after the August shooting in Ferguson announced their support for Stream.
