Conservative poll finds close race for Missouri governor in 2016

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.  – The Missouri Alliance for Freedom, a conservative activist group, released new polling on Wednesday showing a tight Republican field to be the state’s next chief executive.

The poll, produced by Kansas City Republican consultant Jeff Roe’s Remington Research Group, found that the “Republican nomination for Missouri Governor ’16 is anyone’s to win.”

When the group tested a three way matchup between former House Speaker Catherine Hanaway, Auditor Tom Schweich and St. Louis businessman John Brunner, it found that Schweich led with 16 percent, followed by Hanaway with 13 percent and Brunner with 10 percent. In that matchup, 62 percent of the voters remained undecided.

When it tested Hanaway, Schweich, and Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder for the nomination, the group found Kinder ahead with 24 percent, followed by Schweich with 15 percent and Hanaway with 12 percent.

The Missouri Alliance for Freedom also tested the U.S. Senate Race. In a matchup between incumbent Republican Roy Blunt and Brunner, it found Blunt with 50 percent, Brunner with 19 percent, and 32 percent undecided.

The firm polled 747 likely voters on Monday and Tuesday, with a margin of error of 3.6 percent.
