With protestors still in the nation’s streets demanding change following the Michael Brown shooting by a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri, President Barack Obama on Monday will host a meeting with local law enforcement and community leaders at the White House.
Obama’s day, according to one White House official on Sunday evening, will focus on three facets of the Ferguson case and the associated demonstrations.
First, Obama will meet with his Cabinet to discuss the concerns surrounding police militarization. Second, he and Vice President Joe Biden will meet with “young local and national civil rights leaders.” Finally, Obama will meet with community leaders and law enforcement officials “to discuss how communities and law enforcement can work together to build trust to strengthen neighborhoods across the country.”
One White House official said Sunday that the incidents surrounding the shooting of Michael Brown have “shined a spotlight” on the “importance of strong, collaborative relationships between local police and the communities they protect and serve.”
