— State Sen. Scott Sifton this weekend emailed supporters confirming rumors that he will seek the Democratic nomination for attorney general.
“My legal career began in the Attorney General’s office, where I worked on special prosecutions in cases of public corruption, senior fraud, nursing home patient neglect and methamphetamine manufacturing,” he wrote. “I also defended against criminal appeals, keeping murderers, drug dealers, rapists, child abusers, and drunk drivers where juries sent them: behind bars.”
Sifton touted his opposition to lobbyist gifts, support for expanding the use of DNA evidence in criminal investigations and changes to Missouri’s school transfer law in his message.
State Sen. Kurt Schaefer, a Republican, is the only other candidate who has announced a candidacy for the office. Its current occupant, Democrat Chris Koster, has indicated he will run for governor in 2016.
