JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Missouri Legislature on Wednesday sent legislation to the voters that would ask them to raise sales taxes to fund transportation projects.
The measure, if approved by voters, would provide some $5.34 billion to fund transportation projects like building and maintaining roads and bridges over the next decade. Five percent of the funds raised would go to both cities and counties, and the other 90 percent would be used by the state.
The measure, which passed the Senate late last month, passed the House 105-43. The vote split both Democrats and Republicans. For example, House Speaker Tim Jones, a Republican, voted against the measure, while House Majority Floor John Diehl voted for it.
