Nixon slated to address Clinton Global Initiative on disaster preparedness

– Gov. Jay Nixon is slated to be in New York City next Tuesday to address the Clinton Global Initiative on disaster preparedness.

Nixon, who led the Missouri response to the 2011 Joplin tornado, will deliver remarks before a panel with Gail McGovern, president and CEO of American Red Cross; Marc Pritchard, Global Brand Building Officer at Procter and Gamble; and Richard Sterns, president of World Vision.

“This dinner will include a panel discussion among preeminent disaster response organizations and government leaders who will provide a firsthand perspective on their approach to these challenges based on recent experiences,” the event’s website said. “These leaders will also share their thoughts on how private-public partnerships can further help to strengthen their capabilities.”

The focus of the forum is “building global partnerships,” something Joplin experienced with the influx of support from places like the United Arab Emirates, who contributed laptops for each student returning to Joplin Schools after the storm.

The forum will take place Tuesday, September 24, at 7 p.m. in New York City.
