– President Barack Obama is set to visit Missouri next week, where he is scheduled to speak at the University of Central Missouri about the economy.

In a statement on Saturday, Gov. Jay Nixon said he planned to join the president for his visit.

“We are very proud that the President has chosen to visit the University of Central Missouri, where our Innovation Campus initiative got its start,” Nixon said. “By offering accelerated degrees in high-demand fields, Innovation Campuses reduce student debt and ensure Missouri workers have the skills to compete for 21st century careers. Missouri now leads the nation in holding down college tuition increases, and our highly skilled workforce continues to attract major investments from high-growth industries. This visit is a great testament this outstanding institution and the leadership of President Chuck Ambrose.”

Wednesday’s visit will mark Obama’s forth official visit to Missouri since taking office in 2009. Obama’s last official stop came in May 2012, where he spoke to Joplin High School graduates and marked the one-year anniversary of the Joplin tornado.
