In new briefs filed with the U.S. Supreme Court, Koster said that while he believes the individual mandate is unconstitutional, the law as a whole should be able to stand.
His Republican opponent for reelection, St. Louis attorney Ed Martin, accused him of political pandering.
“There can be no question: Missourians have rejected Obamacare and Chris Koster needs to stop playing politics and oppose all aspects of Obamacare,” Martin said in a statement. “To play games with legal briefs to win political points is the height of arrogance and beneath the office of Attorney General.”
Martin, who has dubbed Koster ‘Obama’s lawyer,’ called on Koster to oppose all provisions of the law.
In a statement provided by the Martin campaign, executive director of the Missouri GOP called Koster’s action a “stunt,” that was “too little, too late.”
