— Gov. Jay Nixon is winding down his week in China, bringing home nearly $4.6 billion in new trade opportunities between the State of Missouri and Chinese states and organizations.

Thursday, Nixon closed a $100 million export agreement with Zhejiang Province, adding to other deals signed earlier this week, including a $200 million deal with Missouri’s sister-province Hebei and a $4.4 billion agreement with the China Council for Promotion of International Trade.

“This trade mission has been highly successful for Missouri as a whole and for the dozens of private businesses, commodity groups and other organizations that have joined us,” Nixon said in a statement. “Missouri businesses will benefit from continued collaboration, competition and growth in the Chinese market for years to come.”

Nixon’s office says the governor’s trip has been successful because Nixon has been “working directly with governors of other states, provinces and sub-national jurisdictions to promote Missouri exports and economic growth.”

Friday, Nixon is scheduled to deliver remarks at the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai, before returning to Missouri on Saturday.
