— While Senator Claire McCaskill holds a lead over all her Republican opponents, it is definitely a slim lead according to the latest poll by Public Policy Polling.

The firm has the first term Democrat leading all of her Republican opponents, the slimmest margin between her and former State Treasurer Sarah Steelman.

McCaskill leads Steelman by one point — well within the margin of error. She leads St. Louis U.S. Rep. Todd Akin by two points, and businessman John Brunner by nine. The margins of difference shrunk with all Republicans other than Brunner.

“Claire McCaskill continues to look extremely vulnerable for reelection,” said Dean Debnam, President of Public Policy Polling. “But it bodes well for her that even at a low time for her party she’s running slightly ahead of her opposition. She might be able to hang on if Democrats see any improvement in their position over the next year.”

McCaskill’s approval rating dropped three points since May, according to the survey conducted last weekend. Of all Republicans, Steelman has the highest approval rating.
