Blunt stumps with measured confidence

(JOPLIN, Mo.) Congressman Roy Blunt flew around the state on his one day, ten stop, Election Eve tour.

Blunt told supporters in Joplin, “It all happens election day.”

“People say ‘This has been a tough campaign.’ Campaigns are campaigns. What’s really tough is the 50 year old guy who’s always brought a pay check home, who’s always had a family who’s depended on him, and he doesn’t have a job, and he doesn’t know if he’ll ever have one again or not,” Blunt said. ” That’s what’s tough, and we need to solve that problem to help create opportunity for people.”

“We need to have a country that’s dedicated to that, a government that’s not dedicated to creating jobs, but creating an environment where private sector individuals want to take a chance and create the jobs,” he said.

Carnahan, following her statewide bus tour that finished yesterday in St. Louis, spent most of her day in St. Louis.

Blunt blasted her schedule Monday, saying, “We’ve been in ten cities, Robin Carnahan was in St. Louis all day. I was in St. Louis today, too, but I want to serve all Missourians.”

While Blunt’s campaign showed obvious optimism Monday night, Carnahan told reporters Saturday it’s not over until election day.

“If you decide you’re going to write the story of the election before anybody’s voted, you can write whatever storyline you want. I actually think we should wait untill election day and see what voters have to say,” she said.

Carnahan said the election was a choice between “Somebody who has been part of the problem in Washington and who is too tied to special interests, or … somebody who’s going to be independent and a fierce figher on behalf of Missouri.”

Polls open Tuesday at 6 AM and close at 7PM.

Carnahan will join supporters in St. Louis, while Blunt will join his supporters in Springfield, Mo.
