(CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.) Tommy Sowers has enlisted a fictitious former Presidential Deputy Chief of Staff in a fundraising effort. A mustached Bradley Whitford appears in a web-video, asking supporters to donate to Sowers’ campaign.
“On behalf of the acting President of the United States, I order you to send him some moony, and to do it now,” Whitford said in an endorsement video.
He noted a unique opportunity for a Democrat pick up in the eighth district. FiveThirtyEight says the district is “Solid Republican,” giving Sowers a 0% chance of winning.
That hasn’t stopped him. Sowers isn’t quitting. He has hit the road, going county to county, worked with volunteers, and knocked on doors, all in hopes of getting out the vote in support.
“I’ve gotta tell you, I think this is exactly the kind of guy we need in Washington right now. He’s bright, he’s articulate, he’s a proven leader, he’s battle field tough, he does not know what quit means,” Whitford said.
Sowers is running against seven term incumbent Jo Ann Emerson.
